Resurrection (ferns)

Resurrection (ferns)

Down here in Florida, a lot of our oak trees are covered with these funny resurrection ferns. I don’t know exactly how they work, but when it’s been dry for a while, they are all dry and shriveled and dead looking (see above). I liked this image because 1) I took it with my phone, which I think is a pretty fantabulous trick; and 2) when I converted it to black and white, to me it looked like something I would have created back in the early days in the darkroom.

When it rains, like it did this past weekend, these ferns just explode with new life and vibrant color. I wish the houseplants that I seem to murder regularly responded this well to some watering, but I can’t pass these up.
